Loretta Williams has a long history in public radio as an editor, producer, reporter and trainer. She has produced or edited such radio science documentaries as Bitten By The Bone Bug, The Goldilocks Theory and Climate of Uncertainty. From 1999 to 2006 she served as editor for the arts unit at National Public Radio, where she assigned and edited stories related to film, theatre, television, books and fine arts.

Loretta has been part of many notable productions, including two Peabody-winners: The NPR 100 and The DNA Files. Her work has also been honored by the National Lesbian and Gay
Journalists Association, the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award, the Clarion Award from Women in Communications, the Gracie Award from American Women in Radio and Television, the American Bar Association Award, the Cindy Awards from the Society of Visual Communicators, the Unity Award in Media, the National Education Association Award, the New York International Radio Festivals, and the Gabriel Award.

Coming from a family of two sets of twins, she always had an interest in genetics. A trip to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories as a teenager prompted her to take a basic genetics college course while still in high school. She is hoping that one day she can convince her brothers, who look identical but are supposedly fraternal, to get a DNA test to settle the question once and for all.
